The USF Sarasota-manatee campus is excited to offer the Introduction to Critical and Creative Design Thinking Workshop: Become a More Effective Decision-maker Workshop. In this environment of accelerating change and increasing complexity, critical and creative design thinking continue to be two of the most in-demand skills for the current and future workforce. During these two, half-day workshops, you will be introduced to these important concepts and will learn how to apply them to become more effective in your business or personal decision-making. Complete both workshops, enhance your skills and receive your certification and Credly badge.

 

Dr. A. Helene Robinson

Dr. A. Helene Robinson is the director of the Critical, Creative, and Design Thinking program, the Arts Integration Coordinator, and an Incredi-Bull Faculty Member in the College of Education at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus. She has published and presented nationally and internationally on arts integration methods to include marginalized and struggling learner populations in inclusive classrooms, positive behavior intervention supports, social/emotional skill development using critical and creative design thinking, developing collaborations through cultural reciprocity, teacher quality indicators, and the reading achievement of students with special needs, and on arts integration program design in higher education.

She has conducted multiple professional development workshops and has been engaged in numerous community service and research projects. Additionally, she has led the design and development of multiple programs, including an interdisciplinary graduate degree in Arts Integration. With this degree, she broke new ground in forming interdisciplinary collaborations with faculty across colleges.

 

Jenny Post

Jenny Post is the administrator for the Critical & Creative Design Thinking program here at the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus. She also supports the campus dean’s office for the College of Arts & Sciences. Prior to this, she was administrator for USF Sarasota-Manatee’s Incredi-Bull Critical Thinking program for four years. Besides administrative work in higher education, Jenny has a background in editing—both in publishing and in the legal field.

 

Dr. Lisa M. Penney

Dr. Lisa M. Penney is a Professor of Management in the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus, where she teaches undergraduate and MBA courses on management, leadership, and organizational behavior. Dr. Penney received her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She is an award-winning researcher who has spent over 20 years studying the causes and consequences of job stress. Her work has been published in top scholarly journals and featured in national and international media, including Forbes.com, Newsweek Japan, and The Today Show. Currently, Dr. Penney is working to bridge the research on neuroscience, decision-making, and stress to develop practical strategies to help individuals improve their critical thinking and decision-making under stressful conditions.

 

Dr. Michael A. Gillespie

Dr. Michael A. Gillespie is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of South Florida’s Sarasota-Manatee campus. He teaches Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Research Methods, and Statistics. His research focuses on organizational culture and leadership, psychological measures, and job attitudes, with a current interest in judgment and decision-making in the workplace. Dr. Gillespie’s previous appointments include Data Analyst at University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research, Director of Research at Denison Consulting, and Assessment Coordinator for the College of Education at Bowling Green State University. Most recently, he served as Director of USF Sarasota-Manatee’s Incredi-Bull Critical Thinking program and President of the Faculty Senate.

 

Dr. Greg Smogard

Dr. Greg Smogard is the Assistant Vice President of Innovation and Business Development. He leads the Sarasota-Manatee campus’ business engagement efforts with a focus on creating and enhancing mutually beneficial partnerships with businesses by leveraging the university’s resources and innovation expertise. He has worked with Fortune 500 companies and global brands in more than 40 countries and held management positions at American Express’ Latin American Division, Blockbuster/Viacom, and other major corporations. Dr. Smogard is the author of the book, “A World of Opportunities for Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Creating Your Own Job in the New Normal.”
